Description
It was very early in the morning before the sun came out when we saw this very yellow patch of Aspen trees. My friend and I were following the google maps of fall colors, and one patch was indicated on Lobdell Lake Road, a narrow dirt road near Bridgeport, California, USA. The place did not disappoint, and this particular patch looked luminous against the green background of coniferous trees.
Fall colors in the Eastern Sierras of California are patchy and are mostly confined to Aspens on the hills and along rivers and creeks we can also find cottonwood. Both belong to the genus Populus in the family Salicaceae. There are about 25–30 species of deciduous flowering plants in this group, native to most of the Northern Hemisphere.
