Artist's Description
A walk around the Fort Baker site in Sausalito, California, reveals a plethora of old structures and their doors, gates and fences, barriers to keep something in or out, witnesses of a history of grueling battles for property, territory and freedom. Today these barriers are only shadows of what they once were and remain as witnesses of the human struggles to separate in from out, us from them, ours from theirs.
Fort Baker is a 335-acre former 1905 U.S. Army post, north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The site contains 25 historic army buildings in various states of conservation.
