Description
Dichelostemma volubile; also known as Twining snakelily, is endemic to the mountain foothills of California, where it grows in scrub and woodland. Oftentimes it resembles a snake ready to jump. I photographed this wildflower at the South Yuba River State Park, a foothills site along the American River. The shallow depth of field gives this flower a soft, dreamy look against a defocused brown background.
